WHAT IS GOALKEEPER PROJECT?

GOALKEEPER PROJECT #1

Goalkeeper Project is a specialist goalkeeper development programme created for goalkeepers who want to do more than simply train - they want to understand their position, their technique and the decisions behind their actions.
This is not a traditional summer football camp.
Each edition of Goalkeeper Project focuses on a specific area of goalkeeper development.
Instead of covering multiple unrelated topics in one session, we select a specific technical focus and take goalkeepers through the complete development process:

ANALYSE • PREPARE • TRAIN • APPLY • REVIEW

The first edition
Goalkeeper Project #1
Summer Edition
focuses on two fundamental goalkeeper techniques:

SET POSITION • DIVING

During the three hour project, goalkeepers will first see and analyse both techniques, prepare physically for the movements involved, complete specialist technical training and finally apply what they have learned in realistic game situations.

SESSION FOCUS

SET POSITION

A strong Set Position is the foundation of an effective save.
Goalkeepers will work on body shape, foot position, balance, centre of gravity, hand position and overall readiness to react quickly in different directions.
Particular attention will be given to the transition from movement into the Set Position and understanding when the goalkeeper needs to be set and ready to make the save.
The objective is not simply to copy a position.
The goalkeeper must understand how, when and why to use it.

DIVING

The second technical focus of the project is Diving.
Goalkeepers will work on initiating the save from an effective Set Position, the first movement towards the ball, footwork, body mechanics, hand position, contact with the ball and safe landing technique.
Set Position and Diving will not be treated as two isolated techniques.
The aim is to develop an understanding of the complete process:

PREPARE • SET • MOVE • SAVE

HOW WE TRAIN

MORE THAN
JUST A TRAINING SESSION

Goalkeeper Project combines education, video analysis, physical preparation and specialist goalkeeper training.
Before performing a technique, the goalkeeper first needs to understand what they are trying to achieve.
Players will see the technique, analyse the key details and then take that knowledge directly onto the pitch.
The final stage is applying the techniques in more realistic and unpredictable goalkeeper situations.
Our development model is simple

LEARN • TRAIN • APPLY

LEARN | See, analyse and understand the technique.

TRAIN | Develop the movement through structured practice and specialist coaching.

APPLY | Use the technique in realistic game situations.

EVENT AGENDA

11:00–11:10 • START & INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Goalkeeper Project #1.
Introduction to the session, organisation of the groups and explanation of the main coaching objectives.
Goalkeepers will be shown what they will be working on and the key details they should focus on throughout the project.

11:10–11:30 • VIDEO ANALYSIS
SET POSITION • DIVING

We begin by understanding the technique before training it.
Using video examples, goalkeepers will analyse the key technical elements of Set Position and Diving.
The analysis will focus on:
• body position
• foot position
• hand position
• balance and centre of gravity
• timing of the Set Position
• first movement towards the ball
• footwork
• diving mechanics
• contact with the ball
• safe landing technique
• common technical mistakes
The objective is to give every goalkeeper a clear visual understanding of the technique before taking it onto the pitch.

11:30–11:50 • GK FITNESS
MOVEMENT • MOBILITY • STABILITY • POWER

Specialist physical preparation directly connected to the technical focus of the project.
This is not a traditional fitness workout.
The exercises are selected specifically to prepare the goalkeeper's body for Set Position and Diving.
The block will include activation, mobility, stability, coordination, footwork, lateral movement and explosive actions required during goalkeeper interventions.

11:50–12:40 • TECHNICAL TRAINING
SET POSITION • DIVING

The main technical training block of Goalkeeper Project #1.
The knowledge gained during the video analysis is now transferred directly onto the pitch.
Training will begin with the fundamentals of Set Position before progressing into Diving technique.
Goalkeepers will complete structured technical progressions with continuous coaching, observation and individual corrections.
The objective is not to complete as many exercises as possible.
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY.
The priority is quality of execution, understanding the movement and developing the ability to repeat it consistently.

12:40–12:55 • BREAK
RECOVERY • SNACKS • DRINKS

A short recovery break before the
second part of the project.
Snacks and drinks will be provided.

12:55–13:40 • GAME SITUATIONS
FROM TECHNIQUE TO THE GAME

After developing the techniques in a controlled environment, we move into the most important stage applying them in realistic goalkeeper situations.
The exercises become more dynamic, more demanding and less predictable.
Goalkeepers will need to:
• adjust their position
• recognise the developing situation
• establish an effective Set Position
• react to the shot
• make a decision
• select and execute the appropriate
• saving technique.
At this stage, the objective is no longer simply to perform the movement correctly.
It is about using the right technique at the right moment.

13:40–14:00 • REVIEW & EDUCATION MATERIALS

The final part of the project is dedicated to reviewing and reinforcing what has been learned.
We will revisit the key elements of Set Position and Diving, discuss common technical mistakes identified during the session and provide guidance for continued development.
Each goalkeeper will also receive Goalkeeper Project #1 educational materials to take away and use after the event.
The materials will include:
KEY POINTS • COACHING POINTS • COMMON MISTAKES • HOMEWORK
The project finishes with more than just another completed training session.
The objective is for every goalkeeper to leave with a clearer understanding of their technique and specific knowledge they can continue to use in their development.

• SMALL GROUPS
• LIMITED SPACES
Goalkeeper Project is delivered in small training groups.
This is a deliberate part of the programme.
Limiting the number of participants allows our coaches to observe each goalkeeper more closely, provide individual technical corrections and create more opportunities for
high-quality repetitions.
• FEWER GOALKEEPERS.
• MORE QUALITY REPS.
• MORE INDIVIDUAL FEEDBACK.
